“Playful, invigorating pop music with that certain something” Soundmag
Having given us a taste earlier in the year with the release of her infectious indie-pop gem High Horse (be gone), Scandinavian singer-songwriter Rikke celebrates the upcoming festive season with her poignant ballad Spare Key – a track about loneliness at Christmas time.
Already a household name in Norway through her performance with John Legend at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert plus regular appearances on popular reality show Hver gang vi møtes, Rikke’s talent for translating feelings of introspection & vulnerability into words is beautifully showcased on this most emotive of tracks. The lyrics paint a picture of personal betrayal while also coming across as a touching expression of thinking about others during this reflective time of the year.
Rikke explains: “One of the worst things you can do to someone is not be dependable. Living with uncertainty leaves deep marks on people & often results in anxiety & issues of trust. Spare Key is a song about uncertainty, not knowing, & a broken heart that has learnt to heal itself to then go on & help others. Something that I now realise can help you in healing yourself”.
