The world is in chaos! Humans are psychologically mad & crazy. Are we in the final innings of the human experiment? As we look around, we can either fill ourselves with rage, feelings of hopelessness & sadness, or we can create art inspired by the madness… and that’s proFESSional!

Said to be one of the most exciting bands to emerge this year – that’s Stooges-exciting, Pixies-exciting, Queens Of The Stone Age-exciting… proFESSional’s latest single TELEVISION is now switched on & out there for all to hear. On it, vocalist Mani sings “I saw the news & now I’m scared to leave the house / I saw it all on television” – which presumably goes some way to suggesting that the revolution will be televised whether we like it or not! Mani continues “… television lays bear the profound impact of today’s media culture & the existential dread channelled directly into our homes. It delivers a commentary on the overwhelming & ridiculously disturbing overload of information that we all consume on a daily basis…”

With a video to accompany the release directed by Archie McCallum (better known by his screen name Franko_flint) & featuring Dylan Smith (Lord of the Rings, Maze Runner), the band are seen performing the song while being trapped inside a television set.

So who are proFESSional & how did it all begin? Three musicians called Rob, Paul & Marco meet Croatian physical therapist Mani & talk about forming a band. Mani starts humming guitar riffs in their ears… “na-na, na-na, na-na”, that kind of thing – then he starts sending voice notes & on it goes. It soon transpires that the riffs & the lyrics come to Mani at the same time since they’re formed out of the same idea. Some music scholars like to call this doubling: we just think of it as what proFESSional do.

proFESSional are Mani (vocals), Rob Hennebry (guitars), Paul Fifield (guitars), Marco Gaspari (bass) & Jonny Brister (drums). In terms of flavours/influences, think Stooges, think Hives or Fontaines DC… that sort of thing. Or at least that’s when they’re not reminding you of Buzzcocks, Swell Maps or Spizz… or something else that’s been preserved in a time capsule & transported from 1978. That’s right: there’s nothing 1977 about them at all.

Having just wowed a packed house when they headlined Islington’s O2, proFESSional will be playing with the Levellers at Margate’s Dreamland (12^th Nov) as well as with The Luka State at Brighton’s Green Store Door (14^th Nov) & London’s 100 Club (16^th Nov).

With further single releases that tackle the darker side of society’s celebrity culture between now & their album release in the summer of 2025, proFESSional are definitely a band to watch out for. Now then… just turn off that television – you know you want to!
