“She’s got mad potential” Laurie Vincent (Soft Play)
“If you meet her… you won’t get a word in edgeways” Steve Lamacq / BBC6 Music
“The one & only Jodie Langford!” John Kennedy / Radio X
As the rise & rise of Jodie Langford continues to inspire, the Hull based spoken word artist follows a BBC 6Music Roundtable appearance & her performance at Reading & Leeds Festival on the BBC Introducing stage with a double A-Side single: I Don’t Know / Locked Out – an energy busting package that features electronic beats from ‘king of electro’ producer Endoflevelbaddie, over which the outspoken Jodie spits her enlightened verse.
First up is I Don’t Know: a song that encapsulates feelings of anxiety & uncertainty that Jodie’s been experiencing recently. With lyrics like “staring through a stranger’s glasses” expressing her loss of a sense of self & identity, the song describes how she once felt confident & articulate but now feels she has the oral communication skills of a scrambled egg, being both present & absent at the same time. While Jodie can appreciate she’s achieving great things with her music, she feels under attack from her own mind.
On a similar tack, the 2nd song Locked Out, deals with imposter syndrome & feeling unworthy when good things happen in your life. Often feeling like a fraud, Jodie tackles her fear of being exposed as a deceptive person combined with the associated stress that comes with that.
