Illinois born; Nashville based singer-songwriter James Bruner releases his new single When I’m Down & returns to the UK for promotion before supporting British rock band The Struts on their European tour.
With its lush arrangement & heartfelt vocals, new single When I’m Down is a taste of what’s to come on James’s soon to be released debut EP. Written during a period of vulnerability in his life after a romantic break-up, the song sees the artist facing down uncomfortable facts about their part in the relationship with the realisation that moving on & looking to the future is the best way forward.
James expounds: “Heartbreak happens to the best of us & these experiences are always very personal. For me the song is a representation of my own story but I‘m thinking it may be a beacon of hope for others going through a similar thing. Having it come out while I’m going on a UK & European tour with such an iconic band like The Struts is such an effective way of reaching out to many music fans”.
The nineteen-date tour covers much of the UK before visiting Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland & Czech Republic – but James is no stranger to being on the road & performing to thousands of people having toured the US supporting Barns Courtney alongside The Romana Flowers & Yonaka as well as doing a previous European tour with Nashville singer-songwriter William Fitzsimmons.
Having come of age amidst skateboard culture in Springville, Illinois, James was drawn towards artists like Roxy Music, David Bowie & Iggy Pop as opposed to what his friends were listening to at the time. Watching how skaters executed their craft on videos featuring Iggy Pop’s Lust For Life, Rod Stewart’s Every Picture Tells a Story & Black Sabbath’s Paranoid inspired him to get a guitar aged 15. He was soon to join local band Unchained as lead vocalist & rhythm guitar – but it was when he moved to Nashville that his focus on songwriting & working with topflight musicians began to bear fruit.
Full band shows as a solo artist began around 2022/23 & since then James has not looked back, honing his craft as a live performer on many high-profile tours around the world, while developing his songwriting through working with a wide variety of musicians, vocal coaches & producers.
With this 2nd tour of Europe supporting The Struts, James is all set for a bumper second half of 2024 getting his music out there for all to hear. Follow him on your preferred social media for news on the tour & new single When I’m Down while James rises up to lofty heights – don’t miss!
