Hooton Tennis Club - Born, Died

Hooton Tennis Club – Born, Died

Great to see Hooton Tennis Club back with their infectious new single Born, Died, marking a return to their art-rock roots. The track sees sharp songwriting reminiscent of early Pavement or even Wire, while maintaining their own sense of identity. The band state: “With this subject matter, and the recording clocking in at two minutes thirty-something seconds, the song now plays out like Roy, the life simulator game in Rick and Morty. I really like the way we’ve captured it on record and in the mix, though—it reminds me of The Clean (minus the popping snare): fun, but kind of sad.” Loving this upbeat track with its witty, poignant lyrics!

Elbow - Adriana Again

Elbow – Adriana Again

Manchester’s Elbow have shared new single Adriana Again, taken from their upcoming EP and it’s got an irresistible rhythmic undercurrent, some real cool bass work, guitars Guy Garvey has described as “Sabbath-y” and a typically vivid Garvey vocal performance with a strong guitar-led krautrock influence. It also arrives with a music video featuring a “mystery band” playing along in a rehearsal room. Garvey says of their album released early this year: “It’s like we built a new vehicle for ourselves, and we wanted to give it another spin. What we did with some trepidation in changing the sound for Audio Vertigo was so well received that we feel confident to keep pushing forward.”

Kim Deal - A Good Time Pushed

Kim Deal – A Good Time Pushed

Indie-rock stalwart Kim Deal has shared captivating new single A Good Time Pushed, taken from her debut solo album Nobody Loves You More and it features Deal’s Breeders bandmates Jim Macpherson and Kelley Deal, with engineering by the late Steve Albini. The track celebrates the beginning and end of a relationship: “Now is the time / For me to get what I want.” The album came together over several years; its oldest songs were written and originally recorded in 2011 shortly after Deal came off the Pixies’ “Lost Cities Tour” and relocated to Los Angeles.

Sports Team - Condensation

Sports Team – Condensation

Sports Team have shared infectious new single Condensation, taken from their upcoming album Boys These Days. Lyricist Rob Knaggs said: “It’s a song about sweat. We had two years away from playing live and wanted to capture the physicality of being in a packed room with people you love. At a gig or anywhere else.” The track is a fitting tune to sign off summer, boasting the type of big production and feel-good melodies you’d hear in ’80s and ’90s alt-radio hits: “I’ll trace the condensation round the base of your spine/ Like a scratchcard summer, everyone’s a winner/ Everyone’s a winner and the pleasure’s all mine.”

Tiberius b - New Life

Tiberius b – New Life

London based singer-songwriter Tiberius b is back with experimental alt-pop track New Life, and states: “I made New Life a year ago. Songs often have a prescience, everything I said has played itself out entirely. Last night I wrote down ‘That new life I wanted is coming now. I think this is it.’ The video is like a liminal playground to exercise all that came before, where it feels unclear whether I’m ascending or descending. I was very ill when we shot it and had to make that a part of the visual storytelling”. It’s a mesmerizing exploration of rebirth and the track’s ever-changing production elevates the emotional depth.

Benefits - Relentless (ft. Peter Doherty)

Benefits – Relentless (ft. Peter Doherty)

Benefits have teamed up with Peter Doherty on ambient new single Relentless, taken from their forthcoming album Constant Noise. Frontman Kingsley Hall states: “The song is about craving for a past you had that exists perhaps solely in your memory. Yearning your lost youth, when things seemed easier. Getting Peter Doherty involved was important not just because he’s a legendary performer but also because he was a hero to both of us when we were getting into music, linking in with the theme of the song.” Hall says of the album: “None of this sounds joyous, but believe me, it is, we strived for a dark euphoria, plus it was a thrill to make.”

Jacob Alon - Confession

Jacob Alon – Confession

Scottish born songwriter Jacob Alon has shared stunning, heartfelt new single Confession and the soaring, angelic vocals combine with intricate acoustic guitar patterns. Alon states: “This song, for me, is a shedding of shame. It’s a soft hand tracing the stretch marks left behind by a once messy, awkward, painful, and frightening realisation of my queerness. It’s a memory of the unspoken ways in which my heart and body knew how to move; knew how to draw in close under a cloak of darkness to bridge canyons of hatred and fear with acts of love … And I want to keep giving it to you – my beautiful, boundless, infinite queers. This song is for you. This song is for little Cob.”

Bon Iver - THINGS BEHIND THINGS BEHIND THINGS

Bon Iver – THINGS BEHIND THINGS BEHIND THINGS

Bon Iver fans have been keenly awaiting the emotional new single’s arrival ever since Justin Vernon – the man behind Bon Iver – first performed the introspective offering during a 2020 presidential campaign live-stream for Bernie Sanders. It finds Bon Iver at the most vulnerable we’ve ever seen him, as he reflects on the overarching theme of the EP SABLE, which is an ongoing, identity-challenging battle with anxiety and grief. In a statement from Bon Iver‘s team, THINGS BEHIND THINGS BEHIND THINGS is described as being written unexpectedly during a period of intense self-examination and doubt regarding what comes next for his artistry.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Final Rescue Attempt

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Final Rescue Attempt

Nick Cave has shared emotional, powerful new single Final Rescue Attempt which opens with a haunting, spacey synth that sets a tone of unease and anticipation. A clean guitar and piano join in, creating a delicate backdrop for Nick Cave‘s evocative vocals. He recounts a past rescue, painting a picture of a dramatic arrival amidst wind and rain. This memory serves as a stark contrast to the present, where the narrator finds themselves in a desperate situation, pleading for one last intervention. The lyrics raise questions about the nature of faith and the role of higher powers, particularly in times of crisis. Raw vocals and haunting soundscapes on the latest poignant and beautiful track from Nick Cave.

Kill Birds - Behind

Kills Birds – Behind

LA based Kills Birds have dropped their explosive new single Behind. The band describes the essence of the track as: “Always late, even when you’re early. Out of time but the clock hasn’t started. An invite to the party but the party blows.” This blend of introspective lyrics and raw energy creates a compelling narrative that pulls you in from the very first note. The band has graced stages alongside illustrious acts like Foo Fighters, Sleigh BellsShame, and Viagra Boys. As Kills Birds returns with renewed vigor and a more intense sound, fans can anticipate more exciting music and announcements on the horizon. The journey continues, and it promises to be nothing short of exhilarating! Wow – what an absolute belter!
