Korda Korder - I Won't Live Like You Do

Korda Korder – I Won’t Live Like You Do

This second offering from Hastings dream-pop outfit Korda Korder sees the line-up evolve from duo to quintet, & with it, their sound is evolving too. The title alone conjures up emotions that we can all personally relate to in some way or another before you’ve even heard it – and then when you do, you’re presented with a highly passionate vocal delivery with a soulful feel that can sit beside the best. Lyrically standing up for personal freedom & the desire to find your own self in life’s journey, this is a track brimming with youthful optimism. As for the arrangement, it doffs its cap to productions from the past, especially in the guitar solo section, yet it still comes across as a thoroughly contemporary record – maybe due to the authenticity felt in the vocal performance. Overall a solid release that could catch the attention of many a different music fan.

Perfume Genius - No Front Teeth (ft. Aldous Harding)

Perfume Genius – No Front Teeth (ft. Aldous Harding)

Seattle’s Perfume Genius (aka Mike Hadreas) has enlisted Aldous Harding on new single No Front Teeth, taken from his forthcoming album Glory. Both of them—along with band member Alan Wyffels—appear in an epic, unhinged, and hilarious music video directed by Cody Critcheloe – just brilliant! The track is full of tension bolstered by time changes throughout the song and the haunting, ethereal chorus driven by Harding’s vocals. The album contains themes that Hadreas has wrestled with artistically throughout his career – themes of the body and its decay, of domesticity and love, and of inescapable history and damage.

Sunday (1994) - Doomsday

Sunday (1994) – Doomsday

Rising indie band Sunday (1994) have shared dreamy new single Doomsday. The band state: “When I love someone too much I can’t help but wait for the inevitable. Doomsday is a song about the ghost I can’t stop kissing, the funeral I keep dressing up for.” Flawless vocals soar with emotion carrying the weight of love, loss, and inevitable endings. It’s a slice of sublime cinematic dream pop and accompanies the announcement of Sunday (1994)‘s long-awaited debut headline tour, with UK dates set for May 2025. The nine-date run commences at London’s Village Underground. The trio will perform across the country, including at Brighton’s The Great Escape, appearances at Live at Leeds and Manchester’s Neighbourhood Weekender.

Avis - City Suicide

Avis – City Suicide

Hull’s much loved indie band Avis follow last year’s Daffodil Girl with the release of their new EP How To Be Happy & from it this explosive new track City Suicide. Having enjoyed support from BBC 6Music’s Steve Lamacq, Radio X’s John Kennedy & BBC Introducing with their previous output, Avis are on a roll with this new release which is going down a storm at packed venues throughout East Yorkshire. The highly expressive fervour coming from the band on City Suicide contrasts with lead vocalist Seven’s seemingly dark lyrics about feeling trapped in a repetitive mundane 9 to 5 lifestyle with no way to break the cycle aside from a self-inflicted death – surely there must be more than this! Great to have them back and what an absolute belter!

My First Time - Brand New

My First Time – Brand New

Bristol’s four-piece My First Time have shared their infectious & witty single Brand New, exploring themes of anxiety and personal transformation. “Brand New is the death of childhood self-assurance and birth of adulthood anxiety”, explains lead vocalist Isaac. “It is the desire to change everything because it has become just that bit too familiar. An imaginary timeline, where everything is different, and the Brand New version of yourself reigns supreme.” The quartet describes their music as taking the socially aware, introspective nature of post-punk and fusing it with the catchy earworm choruses of pop. Fantastic vocals & songwriting – lovin’ this one!

We Hate You Please Die - Stronger Than Ever

We Hate You Please Die – Stronger Than Ever

France’s punk outfit We Hate You Please Die have shared new single Stronger Than Ever which reveals a page of raging lyrics from their diary. The band break free from seeking male approval and celebrate liberation with their new single and it’s a subversive, symbolic, and feminist video. It’s a goodbye to the princess in a white dress: she is free, confident and unapologetically vocal about it. We Hate You Please Die are influenced by punk and riot girls, on stage the sincerity of Chloé, Mathilde and Joseph drives emotions and transmits the energy of their liberating universe.

The Utopiates - Evanescent

The Utopiates – Evanescent

The Utopiates have dropped their introspective, yet vibrant new single Evanescent – a slice of experimental electro indie. Produced by Andy Hawkins (Maximio Park, Pigeon Detectivesat The Nave in Leeds, the song style is somewhat unexpected in being part sung, part talked by vocalist Dan PopplewellThere’s a similarity here to their recording studio stablemates Yard Act but with a very different edge. The band have always had that electro edge but it’s now more pronounced on their newer tunes, adding a fascinating complexity. Infectious, powerful and poignant lyrics – lovin’ it!

overpass - Slow

overpass – Slow

overpass continue their hot streak with the release of their brilliant second EP Dependent, which includes the anthemic, heartfelt track Slow, with a huge rhythm section driving the early part. Bass of India Armstrong and drums of Jake Bishop truly command the track and create a huge sound, that is topped full of emotion by guitars of Max Newy and lead guitarist Elliot Rawlings. With infectious choruses, the frontman belts out some really emotive lyrics as he sings: “Come down slow, I miss the feeling of a broken home. And everyone here has a place to go, everybody but me.” Powerful and poignant – crank it up loud for this belter!

Dutch Mustard - Dreaming

Dutch Mustard – Dreaming

Netherlands-born songwriter and producer Dutch Mustard (aka Sarah-Jayne (SJ) Riedel) has shared the hypnotic new single Dreaming. SJ has carved out a space where ethereal dream-pop collides with ‘90s alt-rock and the shimmering haze of shoegaze and on Dreaming, she distills these elements into a track that is both sonically rich and emotionally immersive. “Dreaming captures that strange grey area at the start of a relationship—when you’re unsure if it’s real or just a dream,” SJ explains. “It’s about a rare, true connection and the vulnerability of opening yourself up, letting someone in, and wondering if they’ll meet you in the same world.” We were lucky to see this amazing act at one of John Kennedy‘s monthly Remedy shows and what a great evening we had!

The Delines - Maureen's Gone Missing

The Delines – Maureen’s Gone Missing

Known for their evocative, detailed storytelling, The Delines have shared Maureen’s Gone Missing – a typically tight and desperate narrative, in which the main protagonist has robbed a drug operation and then skipped town. It’s the stuff of movies and the music is equally cinematic. From the beginning, there’s a brilliant driving rhythm from Sean Oldham on drums, giving the narrative a real sense of movement. As usual, Freddie Trujillo’s warm bass and Cory Gray’s keyboards provide an atmospheric foundation for Amy Boone’s gloriously characterful, soulful voice. This atmospheric track is taken from new album Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom: “a record of romantic misfits and grifters who live out of suitcases and cars, who can’t seem to settle down, who hope that in the next town or city will be the score that saves them.” What an earworm!
